“A Call for PGMA to Resign, Now!”
The Students’ Actions Vital to the Environment and Mother Earth Movement, Inc. (SAVE ME Movement) supports and joins the various groups, institutions and well meaning personalities in the call for the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
SAVE ME Movement, Inc. was in EDSA II and has vigorously supported the candidacy of Mrs. Arroyo in the elections of 2004 and many of the movers of the Philippines have joined her campaign as volunteers. Mrs. Arroyo won the election.
Soon after, scandal after scandal rocked the Arroyo administration, SAVE ME Movement supported the call for sobriety and peace.
We praised PGMA’s success in steering the economy and we keep silent and ponder deep on the harsh criticisms coming like spring from her political enemies and erstwhile allies.
SAVE ME Movement carried on a policy of constructive collaboration by partnering with the institutions in carrying out programs and projects in line with the advocacy of the Movement i.e. upholding and protecting the primacy of life and the imperative of changing the values of the people particularly the youth.
The tipping point, however, has come in CHED where the Movement has a Memorandum of Agreement to carryout student development programs. It came when PGMA setting aside the provisions of RA 7722 by appointing a leader of CHED that fall short of the qualification standards set by law. It has confirmed that PGMA after all is not serious in reforming and improving the higher education quality of the country to the detriment of the future of the poor who will look at education as the only opportunity to break the debilitating cycle of poverty.
Now the ZTE scandal and attempts to cover-up by all means.
The Philippines is rated as No. 2 most corrupt nation in Asia and No. 11 in the whole world. The scandals of which this administration is into are shattering the dignity and snatching away the hopes of the Filipinos.
The businessmen have spoken. The church has made its stand. Many groups and individuals have been consistently exposing irregularity after irregularity. The Filipinos have witnessed the machination and schemes of this administration in trying to cover-up and suppress the truth from coming up. The arrogance of power is just unbearable.
We are therefore calling for a show of national solidarity in pressing for a peaceful concerted action to boot out President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo from the Presidency to save the country and restore decency in the government.
