President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s (GMA) SONA will be televised Online

Interested in hearing Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s State of the Nation Address (SONA). You can check the Philippine Government’s Official Site and hear the President speak via online streaming.

The SONA, which will be delivered around 4:00 PM today (Philippine Time) by the President to the joint Assembly of the Senate and Congress will tackle on the specifics of the 10-point Pro-Poor Agenda the aforementioned raised in her Inauguration last June 30, 2004. The speech is titled; “A New Direction: Putting People First in an Era of Change and National Renewal.”

PGMA is the 14th President of the Republic of the Philippines and has been in the hot seat for some unsettled and unanswered political anomalies. The strong support she continually get from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) keeps her questionable leadership, as opposition claims, aloat amidst crises.

I never liked GMA because of her attitude as shown on television but being objective about her as the president, she’s the best president ever after Marcos. She is focussed with her direction to lead the country. She performed and she deserves my high esteem. Lahat naman ng accusations sa kanya have not been proven. Kung may mga kamalian man siya, she is still our president and she must be respected for that. Congrats GMA!

…lahat naman ng namumuno sa’tin binabatikos eh…kaya lalong walang nangyayari dahil nasa atin din yan…mga sarili din natin ang dapat na sisihin..why vote for a leader na alam nating hindi karapat dapat…tama, poor becomes poorer…kaya hinahayaan nating ibenta ang mga boto natin…pero hindi b natin naicip na sa pamamagitan nito eh lalong maghihirap ang mga Pilipino?…Sinong presidente ang hindi binatikos?…Sana kahit minsan icomplement din natin ‘yung mga magagandang nagawa ng mga liders natin…try to imagine ruling a country..would be easy gaya ng pagiging madali ng mga hindi magandang sinasabi natin against our liders?….

We can always express our opinions about GMA – and we’re free (and have the right) to do that. It is a given fact that Filipinos are indeed great commentators and sometimes it’s only THAT; commentators without actions. Actually, it’s just very elementary. Before we open our wide mouths and criticize, let us first discern if we have done something good for our country as well. As what the Bible says, “let the one who has no sin throw the first stone.” Whatever has happened in our country – whether good or bad – cannot be blamed to one person alone. Each of us, no matter what scale we are, have individual tasks to perform. That is why it’s called a country; lived by many and not just by one. On a more personal level, whatever happens to our lives (career, success, jobs, etc.) cannot be blamed to others. There’s a simple saying which says, “Life is what you make it.” We create our own decisions everyday and sometimes it is us, not the president, or your mother or your neighbor, who made the wrong decisions which brought us in trouble. I know you can recall such instances in your life from the past. Personally, I dont like the president either. She’s got lots of issues that were yet left unanswered. But looking beyond the personal aspect, her accomplishments are remarkable as well – especially if you look at the status of the nation when she started her presidency. Especially, given the global circumstances currently, it is even more challenging. All countries are suffering – the best thing that can be done for a nation is to lessen it; avoiding suffering can only be considered ideal. Among the remaining alternatives, she’s the best we have. People can always debate about whether she has done well or not and can even cite a lot of facts that are pro’s or con’s. It will be endless and I wouldn’t want to indulge in that as it’s pointless. But at the end of the day, it is our responsibility to support and assist whoever is given the duty to run the country. That is why it is said “sovereignty resides in the people” as it is we, not the president or the politicians who are ultimately responsible for anything that happens to us. It is always easy to spot mistakes; especially if we are just mere spectators or commentators. But always remember and if you’ve noticed, as you are pointing a finger at others, your other fingers are pointing back at you. Let us try to reflect upon the famous line from JFK which says, “Ask not what your country can do for you but ask yourself what you can do for your country.”

halata ko lang ha sa mga comments sa itaas, yung mga nagpapaalis ay usually yung mga walang matibay na opinyong o posisyong inilalahad. does this mean their choice is also a reflection of their own shallowness – thus, not a good choice at all? comment lang po. walang pikon! :-)

  • martin jospeh wrote on 28 July, 2009, 23:35

tama. gloria hasn’t done anything wrong directly to you. do you think she blames you for her unlovely criticisms? i think not. she just tries to reflect on what she does and still negative feedbacks return to her.
AGREE?
