Tips to avoid Scams and frauds in the Philippines

Scams and frauds come in many forms and situation. Some asks for loads worth thousands of pesos for them to call you to collect your winning amount and some close to you asks you to join “quick rich schemes”. This scenario is not a new scene in the Philippines.

Should you wish to invest well, follow the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reminder: “THINK, EXAMING and DILIGENTLY STUDY” an investment or business opportunity.

Whenever you are offered an investment or business opportunity, the SEC also advises that you get the following information:

  1. Name of the person and the name of the company making the offer. Ensure that those who are offering business opportunity has no previous records of estafa or law suits in relation to fraud or scam.
  2. Address of both the person and the company. Ensure that the company has legitimate address. Ensure also that your contact person’s residence is secured for so that it can be traced easily.
  3. Phone number, particularly land line. Do not accept cellular phone number(s). Pre-paid mobile number’s are not reliable and can’t be easily traced.
