Ambassador Gaa visits the Filipino Community in the Bahamas

PR-WCGBahamas_20Nov09 Philippine Ambassador to the United States, Willy C. Gaa visited the Filipino Community in the Bahamas and met with Bahamas government officials last November 20.

Commenting on his visit, Ambassador Gaa said, “Ensuring that appropriate services reach Filipino nationals in the Bahamas is a prime objective of the Philippine Embassy, which happens to exercise jurisdiction over the Bahamas. This visit will enable me to hear directly from the community how best we can serve them. This visit is also an opportunity for the Embassy to reach out and attend to the concerns of our “kababayans” overseas.”

During his visit, Ambassador Gaa participated as the guest speaker in the awarding ceremony for the Filipino Association in the Bahamas (FAB) Sports Fest. A live band concert was also held later in the day as a charity event for the typhoon victims in the Philippines. Members of the Ambassador’s delegation, including the Embassy’s OWWA representative accepted applications and renewal of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) memberships and Overseas Employment Certificates (OEC).

A Diplomatic Dinner at Luciano’s restaurant was held in honor of the Ambassador and attended by Bahamas government officials such as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Brent Symonette; Director for the Ministry of Labor, Mr. Harcourt Brown; Director of Immigration, Mr. Jack Thompson; Communications Director for the Ministry of Tourism, Ms. Janet Johnson; and the dinner’s host, Dr. Gonzalo Bolisay, a prominent member of the Filipino community in Bahamas.
