Nationwide search begins for 4th Gawad Haydee Yorac awardee

gawad haydee yoracThe Manila Electric Company (Meralco) today announced that the nationwide search has begun for the fourth awardee of the Gawad Haydee Yorac for Outstanding Public Service.

Began in 2006 by Meralco, in cooperation with the University of the Philippines, the award recognizes leaders from the private sector, government service and volunteer organizations whose attributes, personal work ethics and service to the nation are worth emulating.

Just like the late Yorac, the awardee must be a role model for public service. More than an award for personal achievements, it looks for service that a consistently ethical leader has unselfishly given through organized, realistic and efficient management of both people and resources. The leadership must have generated significant results to a wide and diverse public in the concept of national good and harmony in diversity.

Like her, the awardee must have attributes, ethics and life examples that guide his/her daily service and leadership. In the process, the awardee consistently carries out his/her commitments and duties, accomplishing deeds that reflect the inner foundation of integrity, courage, selflessness and conscience.

Yorac faced difficult situations head on, realistic yet not losing her sense of humor. For that, she gained the respect and admiration of adversarial persons.

Her sterling record showed discipline, hard work, critical thinking and integrated problem solving. Her attributes, personal work ethics and commitments and her service to the nation are the inspiration for this award.

Among the previous awardees were Antonio P. Meloto of Gawad Kalinga,  President and CEO of Synergeia Foundation, Inc. Dr. Milwida M. Guevara, and the couple Dr. Christopher and Dr. Ma. Victoria C. Bernido of  Jagna, Bohol.

NOMINATION DEADLINE: JANUARY 15, 2010

The nomination is open to Filipino citizens residing in the Philippines who are at least 40 years old at the time of nomination. He/she must have distinguished himself/herself in serving a wide public in the country, exhibiting courage and integrity in the face of overwhelming challenges.
