Indie Un-Film 2011: The 8th Annual Interschool Digital Film

OFFICIAL CONTEST MECHANICS as posted via Filifilm.com: 

1. The contest is open to legitimate students of school year 2010-2011 from all colleges and universities of Luzon. Joining fee is P150 and is non-refundable.

2. Applicants may submit a COPY of their video in any of the following categories:

Feature (animation or experimental)

Documentary

Music Video

Experimental Video

3. All videos must not exceed 20 minutes (including opening and closing credits). Videos exceeding 20 minutes will be disqualified.

4. All entries MUST have a 30-second trailer on a separate DVD.

5. Videos that run over-time, have been previously awarded or broadcast on television, were made by professionals, or contain pornographic elements WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

6. Music videos must have the original song from the artist or must have the consent of the artist for making the music video.

7. Videos must be submitted both in MINI DV and DVD FORMAT. Other formats like V8 WILL NOT be accepted.

8. Entries must be made within the last two years only (2009 and 2010). Videos made before December 31, 2009 will not be accepted.

9. Interested applicant may visit HTTP://WWW.INDIEUNFILM. TK to download an application form. One application form per video. The application form must be filled out legibly and submitted on or before 12:00NN of February 26, 2010.

Applicants must submit the following on a brown envelope:

a. Application form

i. Application form

ii. Photocopy of current semester’s registration form

iii. Photocopy of ID

iv. Joining Fee – Php150.00

b. Copy of the video/film in DVD and MiniDV

i. Title, category and applicant on the cover

ii. Indicate the running time on the cover

c. 30 sec Trailer on DVD

d. Data CD:

i. Synopsis/Video Summary

ii. Cast and Crew

iii. Soft Copy of Poster in 11x17in. JPG portrait format

10. All applicants should email indieunfilm@gmail.com to confirm that your entry has been submitted.

11. In the event that only 1 video entry will qualify in a category, the participant will only receive half of the cash prize.

12. All entries will be screened and only the top 5 videos for Feature and Documentary category, and the top 3 videos for Music Video and Experimental will qualify and be showed in the cinema.

13. All entries will be used for this event/competition only.

14. Decisions of judges are final with respect to all matters relating to this IUF 2011 Contest.

SUBMISSION PERIOD OF ENTRIES IS FROM DECEMBER 1, 2010 TO FEBRUARY 26, 2011. Entries should be submitted to their university’s partner organization/department or directly at Room 403, SPS Building, De La Salle University, Manila. LATE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Applicants may submit more than one video. Only 5 videos will be nominated for each category. Nominees will be notified on MARCH 4, 2011 through text and email and are required to be present during the viewing and awarding session on MARCH 19, 2011.

It is also a requirement to sell at least twenty (20) IUF 2010 tickets. The 20 tickets are already considered sold and non-refundable.

Call for Entries: 1st Halo-halo Indie Film Festival

The stage is set for the 1st Halo-halo Indie Film Festival.

Here are the basic guidelines  as posted via Cine_Guild2006 YahooGroups:

  1. Open to all filmmakers- amateurs, students, professionals
  2. ANYTHING GOES: open to all genres of digital film even animation and music videos are welcome
  3. NO PARTICIPATION FEE. Though there will be an event ticket worth P100 with 1 free beer. Selected participants will have two (2) complimentary tickets.
  4. Film/ video shall only be maximum of 10mins and in digital format only. To be submitted on mpeg-3, mpeg-4, .avi formats only.
  5. We shall only allow videos/films by Filipino producers/directors
  6. Proof of ownership of the film/video might be needed (a waiver shall be signed).
  7. Send your entries with your complete name and brief filmmaking background, producer and director names, synopsis and genre classification at maskay_project@yahoo.com
  8. Deadline of Submission: FEBRUARY 25, 2011, FRIDAY
  9. There will be a screening of videos by MaSKay officers. This is to ensure that guidelines are being followed.
  10. An e-mail will be sent to confirm your participation together with other important reminders for participants.

Cinemalaya 2011 Finalist Announced

The Cinemalaya Foundation has announced the finalists for the New Breed Full Length Feature Category and Directors Showcase for the Cinemalaya 2011 Competition.

The ten finalists in the New Breed Full Length Feature Category are: Amok by Lawrence Fajardo; Ang Babae sa Septic Tank by Chris Martinez; Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa by Alemberg Ang and Alvin Yapan; Baby Factory by Edwardo W. Roy, Jr. and Jerome Zamora; Cuchera by Joseph Israel M. Laban and Janice O’Hara; E-libings: “Your Loss, Our Luck” by Rommel Andreo Sales; Ligo na U, Lapit Na Me by Noel Ferrer, Jerry Gracio and Erick Salud; Niño by Loy Arcenas; Teoriya by Alistaire Christian E. Chan; and The Dog Show by Ralston G. Jover.

The five finalists in the Directors Showcase are: Bisperas (Eve) by Jeffrey Jeturian; Busong (Fate) by Auraeus Solito; Henerala by Mario O’Hara; Isda (Fable of the Fish) by Adolfo Alix Jr. and Patikul by Joel C. Lamangan.

The Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition seeks to discover, encourage, and honor the cinematic works of Filipino filmmakers that boldly articulate and freely interpret the Filipino experience with fresh insight and artistic integrity. The works are narrative features that articulate Filipino identity and culture in digital format. The competition is held in three categories, the New Breed Full Length Feature, Short Feature and the Directors Showcase.

The New Breed Full Length feature category is open to Filipino filmmakers who have not yet directed more than three full length commercial feature films while the Directors Showcase is open to full length feature works by Filipino directors who have directed at least three full-length commercial feature films.

The ten finalists of the New Breed Full Length Feature category will each receive a P500,000 seed grant from the Cinemalaya Foundation as investment for the production. The Best Full Length Feature Film will receive a prize of P200,000 and the Balanghai Trophy.

The finalists of the Directors showcase will each receive a P500,000 seed grant from the Cinemalaya Foundation. The Best Film in the Directors Showcase will receive a prize of P300,000 and the Balanghai Trophy.

Cinemalaya 2011 will be held on July 15-24 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. It is a project of the of the Cinemalaya Foundation, Inc., in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), and the Econolink Investments, Inc. (EEI). Cinemalaya also features the Short Feature competition category as well as film exhibitions, seminars, conference, the Cinemalaya Film Congress, and other film-related events. Cinemalaya 2011 now accepting entries for the Short Feature Category

Entries to the Short Feature Category of the 2011 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition are now being accepted.

Interested participants must submit the following on or before 6:00 PM on 25 February 2011 (Friday) to the Media Arts Division of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City:

• The final work in DVD format, labeled with the title, production company address and contact numbers, production date, director’s name and running time.
• A duly completed application form.
• Synopsis in Filipino or English
• A brief résumé/biodata and two (2) recent 2×2 photos of the filmmaker(s)

All entries must be submitted in a long brown envelop properly labelled with proponent’s name, title and contact details.

Ten best short features will be announced on March 31, 2011. The ten best short features will be screened during the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition on July 15-24, 2011 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The winner of the Short Feature Category will receive a prize of P100,000.00 and the Balanghai trophy during the Cinemalaya Awards Night on 24 July 2011 at the CCP Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater).

Francis Magalona diagnosed with leukemia, urgently needs blood donations

PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) received information earlier today, August 13, that rapper-songwriter Francis Magalona has been diagnosed with leukemia and needs the help of blood donors.

Pupil band manager and Francis’s good friend Day Cabuhat told PEP in a phone interview that any blood type and platelets will be accepted. [Subject to medical requirements, of course.]

“Donations may be made at the lower ground level of The Medical City in the name of Francis Magalona,” relayed Day. The Medical City is located along Ortigas Avenue in Pasig City . Friends and relatives organized a blood donation drive to help the popular singer’s cause. They’re also asking friends from the media to spread the word regarding Francis’s condition to encourage people to turn up and donate blood.

MASTER RAPPER. He is the son of the late matinee idol of the ’5os Pancho Magalona and actress Tita Duran. Francis created his own mark in the entertainment industry as a rapper-performer when he released his debut album, Yo! back in 1990.

Call for Entries: 2008 QC Independent Film Festival

I would like to inform you that the first ever QC Independent Film Festival is currently looking for new and fresh film makers and amateur photographers who are interested to compete their short films and photos in this grand event.

The film festival will be featuring a variety of short films, which shall be divided into Five (5) categories, namely: Narrative or Live Action, Documentary, Animation, Experimental, and Music Video. Aside from the showcase of short films, there will also be a “Mobile Phone Video Contest” and in addition, a Photo Exhibition Contest, with the theme, “QC: What makes it unique?” will also be held.

This is open to students/alumni from the participating QC based Universities/ Colleges. Schools like UP, Ateneo, Miriam, St. Paul, Trinity, and Angelicum are participating. The film festival is an opportunity to showcase the students’ abilities and attributes in cinematic excellence and compete for school pride.

Free Film Showing of Indie Films on February 23

In celebration of The National Arts Month this February, the Cinema Committee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is proud to present Sinesambayanan: Cinema in Public Spaces.

The main module of this event is Cine Maleta, a free mobile cinema which will tour different baranggays and other public places all over Metro Manila. The module will be showcasing independent digital films mostly funded by NCCA.

In line with this, and as a commemoration of the 22nd anniversary of EDSA 1, we will be featuring the Cine Maleta: EDSA SPECIAL this February 23, 6pm at Rizal Park open-air auditorium. Films to be featured will be Barako; Siglo Filipino: Odyssey of a Nation; and Lakas Sambayanan.

With this, we hope to develop, resuscitate, and ingrain a deeper appreciation of film culture for the development and sustainability of independent art cinema in the country.

Please do not forget, February 23, 6pm at Rizal Park open-air auditorium– Cine Maleta: EDSA SPECIAL free film showing.

Casting call for CINEMALAYA 2008 Film "Huling Pasada"

Actors/Actresses/Aspiring actors and actresses are invited to join the auditions for the 10 films of Cinemalaya 2008 this coming January 19-20, Saturday and Sunday, 1:00P.M.-7:00P. M. at the MKP Hall, 4th Floor, CCP.

For the film, Huling Pasada, we’re still looking for–

1) an actor (21-35 years old) to play the dual role of a flamboyant transvestite/ macho literature teacher,

2) a child actor (10-14 years old), preferrably gaunt and naturally endearing, to play the role of the street child,

3) a child actress (5-10 years old), preferrably with a background in dance, to play the role of the ballet student.
