1st VisPop Winners Know How to Rock Cebuano Music Industry

Cebuano music has finally got a new voice, courtesy of VisPop!

The very 1st Visayan Pop Music Festival or VisPop was successfully held at Benedicto College Artists Hall last May 18, 2013.

Many particpants submitted their entries. A total of 80 entries were received on December of 2012 and out of the many entries, only 6 were given the chance to grab the top spot of the podium.

The victors of the night are Jewel & Joe Edward Villaflores with their “Duyog” entry. They even garnered the People’s Choice Award by MOR and Best Interpreter Award.

Lourdes Maglinte came in second with her masterpiece “Laylay.” Her entry also won the Bisayaa Uy Special Award for having the best lyrics, the award of which was chosen by Artist Ko.

The captivating song written by Marianne Dungog and Kyle Wong won the 3rd spot with their entry “Balay Ni Mayang.”

A fighter and fierce performance of Alphecca Perpetua’s entry “Historias” earned the Pinaka Fighter Award by Fighter Wine.

The VisPop organizers only invited the best to fill up the panel of judges, in the name of Anna Fegi (multi-awarded Cebuana singer), Nelia Navarro (DTI Director), and Gary Granada (one of the country’s most noted singer and songwriter).

By fetching the tagline “Bisayaa Uy!”, the inception of VisPop was geared towards uplifting the status of Cebuano music industry, especially improving the songs that are played on local radio stations. However, VisPop is not just any other contest being organized because it is also a songwriting competition.

The success of the 1st VisPop could be attributed to Artist Ko or Artists & Musicians Marketing Cooperative, which is composed of Insoy Ninal, Ian Zafra, Jude Gitamondoc, and Cattski Espina, in collaboration with FILSCAP or Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.

Cebu Media Excellence Awards 2013 is Finally Open

With it’s inception 2 years ago, Cebu Media Excellence Awards 2013 was aimed to distinguish the excellent media practitioners in the metropolis today.

The awarding of deserving nominees will coincide with the Cebu Press Freedom Week which is celebrated every year, specifically on the 3rd week of September.

Cebu Press Freedom Week is a celebration dedicated for the freedom we earned from the Martial Law days.

Cebu Media Excellence Awards 2013 was brought to life by Globe Telecom to award media men that possess excellence in civic, investigative and explanatory journalism.

By the end of the Martial Law tyranny, Globe Telecom has been keeping the flame of freedom alive!

Globe Telecom’s humble origin can be traced back during the Philippine Commonwealth era, when the US Congress made the Act No. 3495 final and executory in 1928. It gave Robert Dollar Company the right to own a wireless long-distance message service from one of their colonies, the Philippines.

After being renamed as Globe Wireless Limited, they branched out to radio and telegraph services until World War 2 stopped their operations.

The company was revived as Globe-Mackay Cable and Radio Corporation (GMCRC) in 1965 but company operations were being halted once again when Martial Law’s effectivity took over. For 8 years, the company was closed but was brought to life again in 1980 when it received a new grant for refranchise.

Origin of Cebu Media Excellence Awards 2013

Back in 1986, the people brought down Martial Law through EDSA People Power. This event made Globe realize that championing the rights of man and keeping alight the flame of freedom is just as important as staying alive.

Freedom of the Press was a right that was suppressed but was brought back to action in 1986.

Since then, Globe Telecom has been partnering with Cebu Press Freedom Week for quite some time already.

As a private institution, Globe is one of the very few entities that support press freeedom and excellence in promoting it.

“We cannot overemphasize the critical role of the media not only in their daily coverage of events but also in shaping the minds of the society on important issues. The Cebu Media Excellence Award seeks to further enhance active participation of the press in pushing for social and civic concerns as our country moves towards economic development,” shares Yoly Crisanto, Globe Telecom’s Corporate Communications head.

Cebu Media Excellence Awards 2013 is a platform formulated by Globe in the hopes of establishing an area where the media practitioners can advocate their cause and excellence.

Cebu Media Excellence Awards 2013 Presents Their Areas of Concern

Qualified nominees or entries shall exhibit one area of concern or a combination of any of the following:

  • Environment and Disaster Response

Why Undergo HIV Testing in Cebu on February 23?

HIV Testing Event in Cebu Philippines

HIV Testing is no longer a taboo. It is not only one of the safest ways of slowing the HIV epidemic, but also the surest way of improving your well being as an active individual.

Here are the five reasons, which i think should be the motivation of getting HIV Tested why you should get HIV tested:

1. Healthier Life
Going to the doctor for your regular annual check-up is key to healthly living. With the doctors diagnosis, you are advised with the best ways of addressing a looming health problem. With this also, you are referred to the best specialist there is for your problem. If you are diagnosed to be healthy, you are reminded on how to keep it up or improve it for the better.

2. Protecting our loved ones
Knowing early can provide you and your partner early information of protection. It does not mean that if you are HIV positive, the sex life ends. Safe techniques are shared and can easily be learned.

3. Make informed decisions
Hearsay is trash even if it comes from a friend who is not an expert on any health issue. Confirming your status can allow you to make the informed decision and based on what is factual.

4. Ask the right question
Living healthy is directly parallel to how you know your body. Getting tested for HIV can give you the opportunity of asking the right questions only few dare to answer.

5. Regular Doctors Checkup
As you can see, the process is clear and the flow is shown in this article. What can provide you informed answer and decision begins in the acceptance that you need to regularly visit your doctor to be healthy in life. Make every visit to your doctor counts.

We understand tht HIV Testing in Cebu or any part of the country, is not a widely accepted norm. However, this should not hinder us from knowing how healthly we are.

Good thing, there will be a FREE HIV Testing event in Cebu on March 23, 2013 where you can ask your right question and get the right answers from specialists and experts on this field.

Titled “Check In Ta Bai”, venue and information will only be shared to those individuals who wish to undertake a FREE, DISCREET and CONFIDENTIAL HIV Testing in Cebu City.

CloudCamp Cebu 2012 to shed light on cloud computing

Cloud Camp Cebu 2012 poster

THE importance of cloud computing to information technology storage as well as other benefits to its users will be among the issues to be discussed when the CloudCamp Cebu 2012 takes place July 4 at the Marriott Hotel in Cebu City.

With Cebu City as the only place in the country identified for the holding of the global event, the 200 participants expected to attend it will have a venue to exchange ideas on how to use cloud computing as a tool in protecting their data at an affordable cost.

Hosted by, the CloudCamp Cebu 2012 will also become the venue for the discussion of the types of cloud computing as it can become a service in terms of being an infratructure, a software and a platform.

Partners in holding the event include the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Cebu Education Development Foundation For Information Technology (CEDFIT) and the Junior International Chamber of Mandaue.

The event will gather people familiar with this new technology trend and those who want to know more about it, including companies that have been using the technology in running their businesses, as well as those who intend to tap cloud computing as a service for their businesses.

Aside from the breakout sessions for the discussion of the issues, the daylong event will also be highlighted by the presentation of sponsors as well as socials and networking among the attendees so they can start connecting with those whom they think can provide them with services.

The CloudCamp 2012 in Cebu City is one of the few of such events held outside the US as most of these camps were held in the country with the first being held on March 11 in Austin Texas.

Sponsored by big global technology companies, the CloudCamp, a global event, was conceptualized by those who adopted cloud computing in its infancy so they can have a venue in discussing issues about it. In the camp, participants are provided with the venue for them to about the technologies behind cloud computing.

Organizers of the CloudCamp said it is “an unconference where early adopters of Cloud Computing technologies exchange ideas.”

“With the rapid change occurring in the industry, we need a place we can meet to share our experiences, challenges and solutions,” they added, pointing out that at the event people are encouraged to share their thoughts on issues concerning cloud computing.

Those who have taken advantage of cloud computing have used web browsers or mobile applications in accessing their data which are stored in remote locations, allowing them to do away with bigger services as well making their computer systems run faster because they do not need huge storage facilities.

The concept behind cloud computing is the sharing of resources similar to electricity grid with the Internet serving as its network.
