Innocence broken by gunfire

army soldiers patrol sulu 2copy Innocence broken by gunfireTwo weeks ago, we were conducting Participatory Resource Appraisal workshop in one upland barangay of Linamon town in Lanao del Norte.

I would be away for a week so I decided to bring my wife and 4-month old baby with me. We were in a hurry for the first day of workshop, we have to drive directly to the workshop venue, with my research staff and family in tow.

We were welcomed by the barangay Captain with a hand shake, but I cannot but miss the barrel of his chromed .45 caliber pistol protruding from his shirt. I also noticed that sandbags have been placed in the terrace of the second floor of the barangay hall.

Are you starting a business?

business growth Are you starting a business?I had been thinking a lot for awhile after a graduated from my MBA degree. How do i see myself in the future? Should I end up my career as an employee or become an employer? For sure I want to venture into entrepreneurship soon.

Starting a business is not as easy as 1-2-3 or learning A-B-C. But sure, like any types of learning, you start from scratch. You can start from a small business loan from a local financing agency or from an online agency with good reputation. From there you can start the business that’s close to your heart. Knowledge and know how about a business you want is a must or else you’ll end up wasting money.

As soon as you see the potential of the business, get multiple small business loans you can handle. Be sure the loan is with friendly interest rates that you can afford to pay for sometime. Maybe, you can also start your own small business financing agency that caters to your locality. What do you think?

Just a thought.

The Cancer of Corruption

(Speech delivered by Philippine Senator Ping Lacson before a public forum sponsored by the Concerned Citizens Movement delivered May 28, 2008 at the Manila Polo Club, Makati City)
Click here to view SOURCE. Thank you to PerryScope for posting.

senator ping lacson1 The Cancer of CorruptionLet me begin with a short story.

A big acacia tree crashed on a segment of the fence surrounding Malacanang palace. Hence, it needed immediate repairs. Wanting to show “hands-on” leadership, the lady tenant came down to oversee the bidding among competing contractors.

Contractor Nr 1 is from Amsterdam – “Madam, I can fix it for P900,000.”

Contractor Nr 2 is Chinese – “Ma’am, I can do it for P700,000.”

Contractor Nr 3 is no ordinary Filipino. He works in the Comelec. “I will repair the damaged fence for P2.7M.”

P2.7M! The lady tenant exclaimed. Why? she asked.

The Filipino Comelec official replies, P1M for you, P1M for me and I will hire the Chinese to do the job.

The following morning, people saw the Chinaman doing the repairs.

I can end my speech right here and you can understand why we are the most corrupt in Asia.

But let me pay for my dinner.

The True Filipino Heart

philippines flag The True Filipino Heart

I used to think that corruption and criminality in the Philippines were caused by poverty. But recent events tell me this isn’t true. It is one thing to see people turn into drug addicts, prostitutes, thieves and murderers because of hunger and poverty, but what excuse do these rich, educated people have that could possibly explain their bizarre behavior? And to think I was always so relieved when petty snatchers got caught and locked away in jail because I never fully realized that the big time thieves were out there, making the laws and running our country. Can it get any worse than this?

Every night, I come home and am compelled to turn on my tv to watch the latest turn of events. I am mesmerized by these characters. They are not men. They are caricatures of men – too unreal to be believable and too bad to be real. To see these “honorable” crooks lambast each other, call each one names, look each other in the eye and accuse the other of committing the very same crimes that they themselves are guilty of, is so comical and apalling that I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. It is entertainment at its worst!

I have never seen so many criminals roaming around unfettered and looking smug until now. These criminals wear suits and barongs, strut around with the confidence of the rich and famous, inspire fear and awe from the very citizens who voted them to power, bear titles like “Honorable”, “Senator”, “Justice”, “General” and worse, “President”. Ironically, these lawless individuals practice law, make our laws, enforce the law. And we wonder why our policemen act the way they do! These are their leaders, and the leaders of this nation
